Little girl's first win

About a month ago my little girl's pre-school had a rocket contest.  The rules were unclear when we first found out about it, so we decided to go with a standard Estes Rocket kit.  Later we found out the categories were - smallest, tallest, most realistic, silliest, alien, made from a kit and edible.  It was almost like a standard model contest.

Anyway, we bought the easiest rocket kit together and decided to do a custom design.  My daughter wanted to paint the rocket purple and put Superman stickers on it.  My wife and I tried to talk her into painting it Metallic Red, but the little one stuck to her guns.  As you can see, it turned out to be a pretty good choice.

The hardest part of putting the rocket together was putting on the fins - no locating pins and had to use white glue (takes forever to dry).  Overall, it only took about an hour to put together.  The next day we spray painted it purple and let it dry overnight.  After the decals were carefully placed onto the rocket (yes, Dad helped alot with this part), we sprayed it with a clear coat.

We entered the rocket in the Made From Kit category.  As you can see below, she won first place in her category and got a pretty cool trophy.  I am so proud of her and she is well on her way.
