I’m back? I have had a terrible last several weeks in my personal life that caused the journal to go by the wayside. Still working on few issues so the updates may be sporadic.
I was able to finish my Eduard DVIII. Wow, it would not go out with a fight. After I finished with the struts, I installed the rigging. The rigging is minor compared to other WWI planes, so it went fast. I use Invisible Nylon Thread due to the fact I like the look of thread better that metal rods – I think it looks more realistic.
I cut the loose ends of the rigging from the top of the wing and filled the hole with putty. After it was dry, it was sanded and then painted. It looked great.
When it was 99% complete, disaster strikes….I dropped the plane and of course it broke the struts and dislodged the rigging (#$&*^&*@%!^%). Luckily this happened late a night or the little girl would have learned some new words. Anyway, I was REAL tired of working on this plane so I just super glued the struts back together and left it as is. The wing now does not sit level and the rigging is sagging.
Overall, this is an excellent model and was fun to put together. All of the mistakes were my fault and if I would have taken my time there would not be any problems. The two areas that you need to watch out for; 1) make sure the engine goes together correctly or else the cowling will not fit, and 2) put the struts on from the inside out and watch wing to make sure it goes on level. And most importantly, DO NOT DROP.
Oh well, you live and learn.
Good to see you back. Sorry to hear your personal life had some topsy-turvy turns. The Fokker looks great!
