It always happens with every build…The Big Mistake. I am idiot and I knew better. The BIG Mistake happened last night. For some unknown reason I attached the struts to the axle wing quite awhile ago which made attaching it to fuselage a difficult chore. It also caused the front 2 struts to bow outwards and looks goofy. 3 lashes and bottle of rum later the wing axle was on the plane and it a mistake I will have to live with. Got to remember my moto – “Do not install a part until you have to.”
I also put together the machine guns. As you see from the pictures below, it is almost a model itself. It is a lot of work to put together but I think it is worth the effort. The only recommendation I have is not to totally cut off the plastic cooling jacket but leave a small nub so that you have something to attach the metal cooling jacket to. Remember to drill out the gun barrel before removing it. It will impossible to do afterwards. I painted it with Model Master Gun Metal Metalizer and then sealed the next day.
Lastly I finished the prop. First, I applied Vallejo Wood as a base coat, then sprayed it Future. I then applied the wood decals and sprayed another coat of future. Then I spread Burnt Sienna oil paint over the prop and let it dry for a day. Finally, I sprayed a coating of Tamiya Clear Orange to seal it and give it a “warm” look. I painted the center portion with Citadel Boltgun Metal and washed it with thin Black oil. I really like the wood decals as I cannot paint a straight line to save my life.
I am final push and hope to get this plane finished by the end of the weekend.
