All done building the Sherman

Final building stage – YEAH! I have been working on a 1/72 Finemolds X-Wing (I will put in WIP once I get further along) but have put on hold to finish the Sherman tank. The last step involves installing PE parts. One of my real apprehensions when working PE parts involves ones with several bends and has to fit into the body, for example, fenders on a Tiger I tank (that is another story). Anyway, the Dragon included PE front fenders that has 2 bends and has to be rounded towards the front. I read that a lot of builders have soldered the joint – I knew I would mess it up so I tried it the old fashion way. I fiddled with it the best I could, glued it together with 2-part epoxy and sanded it. Once painted and weathered it should alright. Also, heating the PE fender prior to bending helped it form correctly.

Next you need to add the side rails – 3 pieces on each side. These add much detail to the side. In my limited research into M4A2 Shermans, I noticed that there was a side rail on the back side so I cut out a piece of .010” plastic card and glued it on. Then I drilled 3 holes to match the side rail.

Presto all done and ready to paint. Usually I prime with Mr. Surfacer 1000 spray paint but it seems that all of the hobby shops are out of stock; even Hobby Link Japan has it on backorder. So I am saving it for other projects.

Below is the left over Bag o' Parts – almost enough to build another model.
