I am starting the fun part…painting and detailing. I painted the engine with Model Master Metalizer Aluminum and the exhaust with Alclad II Copper. This is the first time I used Alclad and I am impressed. I believe that I will replace my Model Master Metalizer as they run out with Alclad. I glued the exhaust on and then I sealed the entire engine with Model Master Metalizer Sealer. I gave the engine several coats of black wash (black oil paint mixed with Turpenoid – the sealer held up to the Turpenoid).
The guns were painted with Gun Metal Model Master Metalizer; the bullets were hand painted with Brass Model Master Metalizer. It was also sealed with Model Master Metalizer Sealer. The crash pad was then painted with Model Master Leather and the handles panted with Vallejo Wood. I brushed the painted handles with Brunt Sienna, waited several minutes then wiped it off.
All of the other body parts were primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000. This stuff is expensive but I love it. It fills minor scratches and gives a nice shiny painting surface. It also prevents paint from lifting later on.
Per the description provided by Cutting Edge, I plan to paint this as a normal Fokker Dr. I, olive streaked upper surfaces and blue lower surfaces. Then lightly mist red so that you can barely see the underneath scheme. My plan is not match the colors exactly but use colors than provide contrast so they show up when the red coat is painted. We will see how it will work.
